Conditions

Depression

Depression can disable an otherwise healthy and intelligent individual.  People who have depression may find it affecting their emotional health, relationships, school and workplace abilities.  Psychotherapy and Neurofeedback can help those with depression by attacking the problem from both sides. Neurotherapy can be used to address any difficulties in the brain's ability to function optimally while Psychotherapy will explore and work through life stressors or triggers that may intensify the situation. Both therapies offer new tools to the patient for an improved life.

Anxiety

Anxiety is now one of the most common disorders in the developed world and can keep people from doing the things they enjoy.  Psychotherapy, Neurofeedback, and Biofeedback can help teach those that suffer from anxiety to self-regulate, to control their anxiety, and enjoy their life again. While regulating any unhealthy patterns in the brain or body with Neurofeedback and Biofeedback, we can also work through maladaptive or distructive thought patterns with Psychotherapy.

ADD/ADHD

Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD) and Attention Deficit/Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) can manifest as cognitive inattentiveness and/or hyperactivity with impulse control problems. In many cases there are areas of the brain that are unable to work properly at the core of these difficulties. Neurofeedback will target those areas and entrain healthier patterns. Psychotherapy is used to work through problems with communication and processing so that any individual can be at their best.

Dyslexia and other Learning Disabilities (Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia and Processing Deficits)

Dyslexia and other learning disabilities (much like ADD/ADHD) have areas of the brain associated with the disorder. These areas are often not functioning appropriately. This can cause many difficulties for the individual at home, school, work, and in personal relationships. In addition to her psychology/NFB training, Dr. Palmquist also has a masters degree in education, specific in dyslexia therapy and can provide Orton-Gillingham based dyslexia therapy separate  to or in conjunction with Psychotherapy and Neurofeedback. Other learning disabilities are also addressed (dysgraphia, dyscalcula, audio processing disorder, etc.).  Neurofeedback can target the areas specific to an individuals and improve functioning. Psychotherapy is used to work through problems with communication and thought processing so that an individual can be at his/her best.

Down Syndrome

Down Syndrome is a genetic disorder.  For those who live with Down Syndrome, Psychotherapy and Neurofeedback can help to reduce anxiety and improve cognitive abilities. Improvements in memory, processing, and emotional regulation are common with Neurofeedback and Psychotherapy and allow for a more capable individual.

Autism

Autism can be caused by many factors.  Psychotherapy and Neurofeedback can help to reduce the symptoms and improve cognitive abilities. Depending on the severity of the individual, improvements can be seen with Neurotherapy in speech, memory, eye contact, cognitive processing, emotional regulation, and social interpretation. Individuals with Autism can look forward to more capability in their day to day life.

Brain Brightening/Memory Aid

Memory Aid or "Brain Brightening" is for any individual who does not feel at their best. Often times this is the same approach for those with age related decline or some level of Dementia. Neurofeedback and Audio Visual entrainment are an effective tool in improving memory and cognitive capabilities in adults. Especially when used as an early onset treatment, Neurofeedback can significantly improve mental performance.

PTSD

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) affects those who have experience trauma in their life. Many times Anxiety, Depression, and processing difficulties can accompany PTSD.  EMDR is a common therapy for the processing of trauma which we offer here.  Psychotherapy, Neurofeedback, and Biofeedback can help calm the mind, process through trauma, and restore peace.
